Derek Burnett finished 5th at the 2013 ISSF World Cup

Top Irish Olympic Trap Shooter Derek Burnett finished 5th in the Men's Trap event at the ISSF World Cup in Granada, Spain, with a score of 123 out of 125 targets. Derek delivered a sparkling performance during qualification finishing in joint 3rd place.

This was preceded by a score of 174 out of 175 targets during the pre-event training. A shoot off was required for him to qualify for the final because seven shooters were tied on a score of 123. Derek qualified for the final, where he shot 12 out of 15 targets, tied with Jesus Serrano from Spain for the Bronze medal final.

A sudden death shoot off was required where Derek missed the fourth target and therefore missed a chance to shoot for the Bronze medal.

Derek shot up in his ranking over the previous World Cup in Nicosia, Cyprus where he finished in the top 10. The World Cup in Spain was won by the French man Stephane Clamens, Alberto Fernandes from Spain won the Silver medal whereas Bronze medal was won by the Russian double Olympic medalist Alexey Alipov.
