Ireland at the Cycling World Championships

The World Cycling Championships were held in Stuttgart from 26-30 September.  A six member team was selected by Cycling Ireland to compete in the Championships- 5 males and 1 female.

The members of the team were:

Philip Deignan - Men’s Elite Road Race

Philip failed to finished, dropping out with a lap to go. He was one of 123 riders who did not finish the race. The winner was Paulo Bettini, Italy.

David McCann - Men’s Elite TT

David finished in 32nd place, 3 min 49 sec behind the winner Fabian Cancellera of Switzerland.

Daniel Martin, Mark Cassidy and Isaac Spiers - Men’s U/23 Road Race

Daniel finished 26th, Mark 76th and Isaac 107th. The winner was Peter Velits, Slovakia.

Siobhan Dervan – Women’s Elite Road Race

Siobhan finished 67th of 142 starters. The winner was Marta Bastianelli, Italy
