CYCLING Richardson Wins the 2009 FBD Ras

British Rider, Simon Richardson was the overall winner of this year's FBD RAS after eight gruelling days of top class cycling. Richardson, who briefly led the 2008 RAS, defended his lead in yesterday's eight and final stage- Clara to Skerries to finish 2 minutes and 49 seconds ahead of Mads Christensen.


The top Irish finisher was David McCann in 8th place, followed in 10th place by David O Loughlin. O 'Loughlin gained much satisfaction in winning the King of the Mountains. The Points Race was won by Niko Eeckhout, a member of the Ireland An Post M. Donnelly Grant Thornton Sean Kelly team


The White Jersey, sponsored by the Irish Sports Council, for the leading Under 23 Rider was Mark McNally of Britain. Sam Bennett, Tipperary Dan Morrissey, one of only two Irish stage winners, finished 3rd in this category. Paul Healion was the other Irish stage winner.
