CYCLING 2010 FBD Insurance Ras Swedens Alexander Wetterhall is Overall Winner

Alexander Wetterhall, a member of the Sweden Team Sprocket squad, became the first Scandinavian winner in the history of the FBD Insurance RAS. The 24 year old Swede won this year’s RAS in Skerries yesterday following eight days of gruelling racing.


Connor McConvey, was the leading Irishman, finishing 4th overall. Connor, a former mountain biker, in his first season in multi- day events, was crowned overall best young rider, winning the white jersey, sponsored by the Irish Sports Council


Wetterhall, delighted with what the biggest win of his career, said after the finish “ I also took the Swedish National time trial title, but I think this is probably bigger.”


Mc Convey was also satisfied with his showing and said “ I’m still learning as I have not  been doing road racing for that long. This was the longest stage race I did. Next up for me is the under 23 Nations Cup Event in Canada.... I fly out tomorrow. That’s very important for the country as we are trying to qualify for the world championships”


The other main category winners were Ireland‘s Mark Cassidy, King of the Mountains, Germany’s John Degenkolb, Points Classification and the Irish sponsored An Post Grant Thornton M. Donnelly Sean Kelly team, International Teams Classification.
