CRICKET Ireland Women finish third in ICC World Cup Qualifier

27 Feb 2008

The Irish women’s cricket team got over its disappointment of not qualifying for next year’s World Cup by defeating the Netherlands by 66 runs to claim 3rd place in the Women’s ICC World Cup Tournament in South Africa.

The Irish victory was spearheaded by the Player of the Match Cecilia Joyce’s excellent innings of 65. Cecilia was ably supported by Clare Shillington’s 58 and three wickets apiece for Ciara Metcalfe and Heather Whelan.

Ireland lost out on qualification for next year’s ICC World Cup when losing out to South Africa in the Semi-Finals. South Africa had a comfortable victory over Pakistan in the final.
