Craig Breen To Make WRC Return In Finland & Germany
Peugeot Rally Academy driver and ERC Acropolis Rally winner Craig Breen will return to full WRC competition twice more this year using the same Kel-Tech Engineering Fiesta WRC that he used back in February on WRC Rally Sweden.
First up Craig and his co-driver Scott Martin will take on the mighty gravel jumps of the "Neste Oil Rally Finland" from July 31st to August 3rd. Having competed here in R2 and S2000 cars before Craig would be considered to have a lot of experience of this event but in reality it will be a whole new challenge this time around in full blooded WRC machinery as this is one of the fastest events on the WRC calendar where pace notes and driver commitment at this level must be utmost right from the first stage.
Just a few weeks later Craig and the team will make the switch to asphalt and arrive in Germany for the ADAC Rallye Deutschland which runs from August 21st to the 24th. This will be only Craig's second time to compete on the event which he won the WRC Academy class of during his championship winning year in 2011. That time it was behind the wheel of an R2 car so like Finland there'll be few if any similarities on this visit. The rally has a different style of stage for each of its three days ranging from narrow and bumpy vineyard roads to tricky military tracks. Add to this the unpredictable weather and it can be a very tough rally indeed.
On making the announcement Craig said, "Firstly I am very grateful to Peugeot Sport for once again allowing me to compete on these two very different events outside the ERC, it's a fantastic opportunity to challenge myself at the top level of the sport again and this time with two consecutive events I feel we can show some real pace I'm so excited".
Before these events Craig will tackle the sixth round of the European Rally Championship in Belgium at the 50th running of the "Geko Ypres Rally" driving his Peugeot Rally Academy 208 T16 from the 19th to the 21st of June.
