Choose your own Adventure

Sport Ireland have supplied these books to every library in Ireland through the Library Council - pop along to your local library to borrow them!

The World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA), with Chooseco, the publishers of the Choose Your Own Adventure series of books, published two anti-doping and sport values themed books, where YOU are the main character. Promoting positive values in Irish Sport is a fundamental part of ensuring that all athletes and athlete support personnel participate in an environment that is drug-free and promotes the spirit of sport. The objective of the books is to provide the reader with the chance to explore decisions about doping, both good and bad, without suffering the real life consequences. The books put the reader in the position to make multiple choices resulting in multiple endings.

Always Picked Last (readers 8-12 years of age)
In Always Picked Last, you are a young elf - when it's time to play sports and games, you are always picked last.
Many adventures await you when your dad suggests that you gain confidence by being good at something that no one else does. Confronting humans in the Upper World, accepting the help of a friendly troll, trying out magic and rainbow surfing -- which path will finally have you picked first and which will leave you feeling like "the biggest loser of all elf history?"
But you have secret talents no one knows about. Should you exaggerate your talents to impress other elves? Even lie a little? Or should you just keep practicing your other skills and have faith the other elves will find out how special you are in the end? There are 7 different endings!

As a young runner who has already gained celebrity status, you are surrounded by athletes of all ages who have taken different paths on their way to the top. As the pressure mounts, you question whether cutting corners using performance-enhancing substances or even supplements would be worth the risk. As you seek advice from coaches, teammates, friends and even your parents, you are brought down different paths. What will you decide on the way to the race of your life? There are 12 different endings!
