Catherina McKiernan launches the 2011 Tipperary Women's Mini Marathon

23 Jun 2011

After the wonderful success of the inaugural Tipperary Mini Marathon in Thurles in September 2010, with over 800 women participating, North Tipperary Sports Partnership and South Tipperary Sports Partnership are delighted to announce that the 2011 event will take place in Clonmel on Sunday 18th September, 2011 at 2pm.

International Irish athlete Catherina McKiernan launched the 2011 event recently in Clonmel AC with members of Sports Partnerships, committee members and Clonmel Mayor Siobhan Ambrose in attendance. Catherina commented on the success of the Sports Partnerships Meet and Train groups and how wonderful it was to see so many people of all ages out running and walking and to keep enjoying it.

The race route and registration details as well as all race information can be found on the official website: www.tippminimarathon.ie

Elaine Cullinan, Co-ordinator, North Tipperary Sports Partnership commented 'This event is open to runners, walkers and joggers of all mobilites and abilities. We really want to encourage as many women as possible to come out and have fun on the day. You can download training programmes for walking and running the event from the website above. All participants will be chip timed so the elite runners will get an accurate time and the event is AAI measured and certified. Come out and support our own mini marathon for Tipperary'.

Valerie Connolly, Co-ordinator, South Tipperary Sports Partnership commented ' I am delighted to be part of this Women in Sport initiative in Tipperary as it is a great opportunity for women of all ages to get active and take part in a women's only mini marathon. All finishers will receive a race medallion and goody bag. There will also be spot prizes on the day. The event also provides a great opportunity for participants to raise funds for their own local charities. We hope that this year's event will build on last year success.'

The 2011 Tipperary Mini Marathon is funded through the Irish Sports Council Women In Sport Programme, and is supported by Tipperary Athletics County Board, Tipp FM, and Clonmel AC. Other organisations supporting this year's event include Clonmel Borough Council, Clonmel Chamber of Commerce, Clonmel Gardai, Clonmel Traders Association, the Nationalist newspaper, South Tipperary Civil Defence, South Tipperary Volunteer Centre and Tipperary Institute.

Registration is online only at (www.tippminimarathon.ie) and closing date for entries is strictly Monday 12th September, 2011.
