Carlton Irish Open - Day 1

Alannah Stephenson was the only home player to emerge from yesterdays qualifying tournament at the Carlton Irish Open in Baldoyle, Dublin.

Stephenson beat Fiorella Marie Sadowski of Malta and Anne Teran of France to take one of the eight places on offer in the main draw.

She plays Monika Fasingova of Slovakia in her first round match tomorrow (Fri).

Tony Stephenson, the top seed for the men's qualifier had already been promoted to the main draw earlier this week. He plays Sweden's Mikael Westerback in the first round.

The only other Irish player in the men's draw is top seed Scott Evans who plays Maxime Michel in his opening round on Friday morning and then either Daniel Groom of England, or Ondrej Kopriva of Czech Republic for a place in the quarter-finals.

In the women's main draw, Ireland's Chloe Magee is top seed and plays qualifier Jelske Snoeck of Belgium in her first round match. Also in the main draw is Sinead Chambers who plays Olga Konon of Germany in her opener.

In the doubles qualifiers , David Walsh and English partner Ben Caldwell have won a place in the men's main draw, where they face
Peter briggs and Harley Towler of England.

Also in the men's doubles, Jonathan Dolan and Sam Magee play Daniel Grassmueck and Roman Zirnwald of Austria., while in mixed doubles, Sam Magee and Chloe Magee, seeded at No 2, open their campaign with a match against Floris Oleffe and Steffi Annys of Belgium.
