Bronze for McMahon and Relay Squad at Dutch Open

The final day of competition took place today at the Dutch Open Swimming Championships in the Pieter Van Den Hoogenband Complex in Eindhoven.

Leander youngster Sycerika McMahon was on the podium today, taking a bronze medal in the final of the 50m Breaststroke. McMahon finished in a time of 31.63, outside of her personal best, behind winner, Swedish swimmer Jennie Johansson (31.12).

Ireland's 4x200m Freestyle Women's relay team of Sycerika McMahon, Bethany Carson, Melanie Nocher and Clare Dawson also took bronze today, finishing behind the Spanish and Dutch national squads in a time of 8:10.97. Hope remains for Olympic qualification for the squad, with further chances to compete in 2012.

Following on from her fantastic performance in the 800m Freestyle yesterday, New Ross swimmer Grainne Murphy continued her form today in the final of the 400m Individual Medley, finishing just outside the medal placing's in 4th with a time of 4:44.61.

Melanie Nocher finished 7th in the final of the 100m Backstroke in a time of 1:02.95, whilst Aisling Cooney was 4th in the B final in a time of 1:04.30.

At the US Nationals in Atlanta, Andrew Bree missed out on achieving the A standard in his best event, the 200m Breaststroke. Swimming in the B final of the event, he clocked a time of 2:15.62,

Next on the calendar for the Irish swimmers is the European Short Course Championships, taking place in Szczecin, Poland next weekend.
