Double European Cross Country Champion Fionnuala Britton (Kilcoole AC) has unfortunately had to withdraw from the European Athletics Team Championships 1st League this weekend.

The Wicklow athlete was due to represent Ireland in the 5,000m event however due to illness she has been forced to withdraw from the Irish team.

Athletics Ireland National Endurance Coach and Britton's coach Chris Jones has said "We are cautiously withdrawing Fionnuala from the team due to a chest infection, as one of our premier athletes we are not willing to take any unnecessary risks."

Britton will be replaced on the team by Kerry Harty (Newcastle AC) in the 5,000m. Harty has enjoyed a fantastic season so far recording a personal best of 9.11.66 in the 3,000m.
