BOXING Irish Team Leave for Womens World Championships

The Ireland team for the World Women's Championships leave for Barbados today (September 2nd) ahead of the 6th edition of the AIBA event.

Katie Taylor, who will be aiming for her third AIBA World lightweight title in a row, Ceire Smith. Allana Murphy and Sinead Kavanagh will represent Ireland.

The tournament is due to officially begin next Monday, although boxing won't commence until Thursday September 9th in Bridgetown, Barbados.

A record breaking 75 nations, represented by over 300 boxers will compete at the Championships.

The venue for tournament will be Garfield Sports Complex.

The 2012 AIBA Women's World Championships in China will act as the only Olympic qualifier for female boxers.
