BASKETBALL European Wheelchair Championships Div C
The Irish Wheelchair Basketball team bowed out of the European Championships yesterday winning two games out of six.
The opening three games resulted in defeats by hosts Latvia (52-82), tournament favourites Croatia (56-84) and Lithuania (58-74). Ireland's first victory was in the fourth game against the Ukraine (66-54)
The team needed to win its last two games to qualify for the semi-finals. Unfortunately it lost the first of these against a very strong Greek team (54-73). It did, however, end its participation on a high note by defeating Belarus (57-46).
The team consisted of twelve players and a management team of four. Team captain Jason Kennedy from Belfast Knights, led from the front, averaging over 20 points per game.
