BASKETBALL Basketball Season Structure 2009/10

Men's SuperLeague:

This season sees the continuation of the two conference system in operation with all teams playing home and away within-conference and home and away cross-conference. The MSL season is due to commence the weekend of the 3rd/4th October, with each team to play 18 games in total and it is hoped that the Conference winners of the Regular season will be declared on the last weekend of League games by the 7th March 2010. The Top-3 MSL teams in each conference will then play-off for the Men's SuperLeague crown during March for a place in the MSL Final which will be held in association with the WSL and Division 1 Finals on the last weekend of March in the National Basketball Arena. We welcome one new team for this season in the shape of Moycullen, who will be hoping to carry their Senior Men's cup success from last season into this campaign.

In the MSL National Cup, the competition will begin at the Round 2 stage for four teams and the remaining six getting a bye to the quarter-finals. For more information or to download a copy of the cup bracket, keep logged onto www.basketballireland.ie.

 


 

Basketball Ireland Women's SuperLeague:

The season is due to commence the weekend of the 17th/18th October, with each team playing 14 games in total with the Regular Season winner to be declared on the last weekend of League games, on the 7th March 2010. The Top-4 WSL teams will then play-off for the WSL Champions crown during March for a place in the WSL Final which will be held in association with the MSL and Division 1 Finals on the last weekend of March. We would like to welcome a new addition into the top flight with Sligo All Stars promoted after their Division One success last term.

In the WSL National Cup, the competition will begin at the Quarter-Final stages for six teams, with Glanmire getting a bye to the Semi-Final as reigning champions. For more information or to download a copy of the cup bracket, keep logged onto www.basketballireland.ie..

 


 

Basketball Ireland's Men's Division One

This season sees the continuation of the two conference system in Division One with all teams playing within-conference and cross-conference games. The Competitions Standing Committee are delighted to welcome newcomers Maree to the competition. Maree have enjoyed huge success at underage level and are now hoping to carry this through to the National League.

The MD1 season is due to commence the weekend of the 3rd/4th October, with each team to play 13 games in total and it is hoped that the Conference winners of the Regular season will be declared on the first weekend of March 2010. The Top-3 MD1 teams in each conference will then play-off for the MD1 Champions Title during March and a place in the MD1 Final which will be held in association with the SuperLeagues and WD1 Finals on the last weekend of March.

In the Senior Men's National Cup, the competition will begin with Round 1 to be played by the 25th October. For more information keep logged onto www.basketballireland.ie.

 


 

Basketball Ireland Women's Division 1

This season also sees the continuation of the two conference system in the Women's Division One with all teams playing within-conference and cross-conference games. We welcome two new teams for the season, Liffey Celtics and Thurles Knights.

The WD1 season is due to commence the first weekend in October, with each team a maximum of 13 games depending on their Conference and it is hoped that the Conference winners of the Regular season will be declared on the first weekend of March 2010. The Top-3 WD1 teams in each conference will then play-off for the WD1 Champions Title during March and a place in the WD1 Final which will be held in association with the SuperLeagues and MD1 Finals on the last weekend of March.
