Badminton Chloe Magee wins first round at World Championships

Well done to Chloe Magee who has come out on top in a tough three setter this morning against Adrianti Fridasari, Indonesia in the Women's Singles at the Yonex BWF World Championships in London. After loosing the first set 13-21, Chloe battled hard winning second and third 24-22, 21-13. Her second round will be against S Nehwal (Ind) on Wednesday 10th


The 2011 World Championships in London commenced this morning, Monday, 8th August. This year's major BWF event has been given the added kudos as the Olympic Test Event for London 2012 which means not only Olympic qualifying points for the players but also a unique Olympic feeling, which is especially sort after as tickets are so hard to come by for the 2012 Olympic Badminton event.


The Irish players have has mixed luck in the draw; Chloe Magee starts the Irish players off at the World Championships on Monday 8th August at 10am playing against A Firdasari (Ina). Her second round would be against S Nehwal (Ind) on Wednesday 10th. Sam Magee & Tony Stephenson then play their Men's Doubles at 6pm on Monday 8th against V Konov/D Zavadsky (Ukr) with a second round awaiting versus B Chai/Z Guo (China) for Wednesday 10th. Scott Evans faces M Lahnsteiner (Aus) at 11.40am on Tues 9th August with a possible second round tie against Lin Dan (China) on Wednesday 10th. Sam/Chloe Magee face B Careme/L Choinet (France) on Tuesday 9th at 1pm with a possible second round tie on Wednesday 10th.
