ATHLETICS Inaugural Clare Burren Marathon Challenge Announced
The Inaugural Clare Burren Marathon Challenge will take place in Ballyvaughan / Fanore on Saturday 24th May 2008. It is hoped that the event will attract upwards on 300 participants.
The Clare Burren Marathon Challenge is being organised by the Ballyvaughan / Fanore walking Club. The event will bring €150,000 to the local economy as the club host one of the biggest one-day events in the area for a long time.
Mr. Kevin Mc Cormack, Chairperson of the Club said that the marathon is a ‘magnificent way in which to promote North Clare. We live in one of the most beautiful areas of Ireland. This is an opportunity to promote the area in a green and healthy way.’
Mr John Sweeney, co-ordinator of Clare Sports Partnership, believes that ‘that this is the ideal opportunity to challenge ourselves to take part in a marathon that has the focus of participation and not competition. We can take part to our own level of ability – Run, Walk or by Wheelchair.’
The Challenge Marathon will have three separate routes that will cater for all abilities.
