49er duo maintain position in top 10

Ryan Seaton and Matt McGovern placed 19th in the only 49er race of the day. As their worst result so far they discard it but remain in 10th overall. Having qualified Ireland for the 2012 Olympics yesterday, they are now hoping to make the medal race on Sunday. They will continue racing tomorrow and Saturday before the top 10 teams are selected for the medal race.

In the Laser fleet, James Espey is still in contention for Olympic qualification. He scored a 20th and a 33rd today and sits 66th overall in a fleet of 147. Espey is currently the 32nd nation in the fleet. The top 35 nations qualify for London 2012. His next day of racing is scheduled for Saturday, a good performance will ensure Ireland qualify in the Laser class.

Peter O'Leary and David Burrows in the Star resume racing tomorrow with the medal race taking place on Saturday. The top 11 nations will qualify for the Olympics and the Irish pair are currently the 11th nation. They must maintain or improve their position tomorrow if they are to qualify Ireland at this event.

ISA Performance Director, James O'Callaghan was optimistic about Ireland qualifying another boat "We still have two boats in the mix, coming towards the end of the regatta. Both boats have demonstrated their race capabilities and now just need one final push".

The sailors who missed out on qualification at this event will have one more opportunity in 2012. Each sailing discipline will hold their own World Championship event before the Olympics where a predetermined number of nation places will be up on offer.
