The #BeActive Awards is a central element of the European Week of Sport. Sport Ireland as the National Coordinating Body for the European Week of Sport in Ireland were in a position to nominate three selections to the European Commission.

Sport Ireland nominated two schools for the #BeActive Education Award and one individual for the #BeActive Local Hero Award

Our Lady's Abbey, Adare, Co. Limerick

Our Lady's Abbey have had a system of Yard Leagues and Play Leaders for break times. This initiative has been in place since 2005 and has led to a culture of activity in the school. The whole school takes part with teachers and pupils working together to make sure every pupil has a chance to #BeActive.

Dublin 7 Educate Together National School

Dublin 7 Educate Together NS is part of the Irish Forest School Association.  Dublin 7 Educate Together opened a forest school on their schools ground. A forest school provides a non-competitive environment for pupils to explore and find ways to #BeActive . Activities such as co-operative games, adventure trails and treasure hunts can all be delivered in a forest school.

Patrick Kelly

Patrick, known as Padge, was introduced to boccia after the London 2012 Paralympic Games and became hooked following his first session. Patrick established his own boccia club shortly afterwards which now meets twice a week to train and have fun. Patrick has represented Ireland internationally on three occassions but his club caters for all levels. Patrick through his endeavours has inspired many others to #BeActive.
