Sport Ireland Welcomes Announcement of Sports Capital Allocations

Chairman of Sport Ireland Kieran Mulvey today welcomed the announcement of €56 million in allocations under the Sports Capital Programme to over 1,700 different sporting projects around the country.

The announcement of the allocations was made by Minister for Transport Tourism and Sport, Shane Ross TD, and Minister of State for Tourism and Sport, Brendan Griffin TD, at Arbour Hill Boxing Club today.

Speaking following the announcement, Chairman of Sport Ireland Kieran Mulvey welcomed the allocation:  “Sport Ireland would like to congratulate Minister Ross and Minister Griffin, and welcome today’s announcement that over 1,700 local projects will receive €56 million via the Sports Capital Programme. These allocations will have a significant impact on the clubs and organisations, while also providing a welcome boost to local communities. Clubs have a vital role to play in providing opportunities for people of all ages and backgrounds to engage in sport and physical activity; today’s investment will support local clubs in providing more sporting opportunities resulting in more people participating more often.”

Chief Executive of Sport Ireland, John Treacy, commented: “Sport Ireland is particularly pleased to see funding for a number of multi-sport facilities which recognises people’s transition between sports throughout the course of their life and the type of activities to which adults are increasingly gravitating towards such as running, cycling, outdoor adventure pursuits and recreational walking among others. Sport Ireland places a particular emphasis on encouraging as many people as possible to participate in sport and today’s announcement will support the continued good work of our National Governing Bodies and Local Sports Partnerships in getting as many people involved in sport as possible.”
